Microsoft Windows Activation
Brain Murmurs owns an admittedly venerable universal subscription to MSDN. As a part of this very expensive deal, we are authorized to have 10 copies installed at any one time of the operating systems available at the time of our subscription.
What drives me to distraction is the Microsoft product activation process. At this point we can no longer active the product over the internet, but have to call in the request by phone. We then have to enter or say 54 DIGIT ACTIVATION CODE. Which doesn’t work, because we’ve activated our ten copies of Windows too many times. So then we get transferred to an operator and have to explain the situation, read of the 54 DIGIT ACTIVATION CODE again, and get our fricking approval code.
The process has become a rite of passage at our company. Whenever someone, for whatever reason, has to repartition a hard drive and reinstall Windows, at some point, they must activate their copy of Windows. The way the rest of the crew acts when this is declared, you would think that the person in question had cancer or something: “You held out as long as you could,” etc.
Yet another GEN-U-INE Microsoft advantage, eh?

[…] Microsoft Windows Activation - nothing like making it hurt even more to install Windows. […]
