CEO Blog: Triage in Project Management

A discussion of the fractal nature of heinousness in project management

  1. This brought back a memory of a project that I worked on one time. It was an IVR application that let people renew a license over the web or by phone. Our “customer” didn’t want the application to work because they were secretly building their own application (ok, we’re state government, so we don’t usually make sense).

At one point in user acceptance testing the customer insisted that the application was failing because when asked, “Would you like to renew your license”, the application responded positively when the caller said the word “horse”.

We discussed it for days. We had meetings. We formed committees (government, remember?). Finally, some one asked anyone in their right mind would say the word “horse” when asked a “yes” or “no” question.

Problem solved! The application went live the next day.
